The quirky live-action comedy The Tick is heading back to television, as Amazon Studios orders a pilot for its video platform.

While the return of The Tick comes as a surprise for some, the revival appears to have been in the works for a while. Ben Edlund, creator of the comic and producer of the animated and live-action Fox series, stated that there was some movement to bring the Tick to Amazon back in 2014.

Edlund will return to write and produce, and Griffin Newman and Valorie Curry have been cast as the Tick’s sidekick Arthur Everest and his sister Dot, respectively, according to Deadline.

In 2014, it was rumored that Patrick Warburton would be reprising his role from the live-action Fox series, but that appears to have fallen through, as the silky voiced Peter Serafinowicz has been cast as the eponymous hero. While not exactly built like the Tick physically, Serofinowicz can definitely carry the gravitas and the innocent mindlessness of the character, based at least on his recurring character in the final season of Parks and Recreation.

With Edlund back at the helm and Seafinowicz carrying the show, here’s hoping the show makes it past the pilot stage and straight into cult status.
