The final piece of that classic Bruce Timm puzzle is complete: Justice League Unlimited: The Complete Series is out TODAY on Blu-Ray from the Warner Archive Collection!

After its 39-episode run ended in 2006, Justice League Unlimited closes out what I refer to as the Golden Age of superhero animation. Starting with the much beloved Batman: The Animated Series, the Timm-produced DC Animated TV shows have since become the basis for which we judge animated superhero shows. The quality writing, the engaging stories, and the iconic design all melded to create series that were enjoyable by both children and adults (and children who have since become adults.)

That isn’t to say that there haven’t been great shows since then, but JLU was the final entry of the 2-D cartoon in that style — you know the one, that now-classic angular style that is so identifiable with these shows.

Like its predecessor Justice League, Justice League Unlimited had some incredible stories, but JLU greatly expanded the League, giving even some C-list superheroes their time in the sun. (Seriously, even bigger DC Comics fans probably couldn’t tell you who Shining Knight was before JLU.) With the expanded rosters, the show was also able to create the wonderful chaos of the Darkseid-Versus-Everyone finale.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to relive my childhood with a Justice League binge watch.

Justice League Unlimited stars George Newbern as Superman, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Kevin Conroy as Batman, Phil Lamarr as Green Lantern, Michael Rosenbaum as The Flash, and many, many, many others. The series is available today on Blu-Ray from Amazon, the WB Shop, and other major retailers.
